abstract: SEARCH is a flexible search tool operating on annotated corpora
description: SEARCH is a tool written in PERL which allows the user to search in structured text files such as they are typically given in annotated corpora. It directly supports CHAT (Childes) and SHOEBOX format and it can easily be extended to other block-structured formats. The usere can specify patterns as regular expressions, associate them with tier (annotation layer) names, and combine them with help of a flexible logical language. If the corpus is block structured one can include block distances in the logical expression. If columns are supported as in SHOEBOX one can also include column distances. The user can link vector descriptions with the program which contain for example a definition of the set of vowels or fircatives etc. In the logical expression vector names can be used such that during pattern matching all options will be checked. The results are blocks which contain matched patterns. Currently, SEARCH is being extended by statistical functions.
